Privacy Policy — Yallah Habibti
Last updated: September 25, 2026
Yallah Habibti ("the app," "we," "us") is an app for learning Modern Standard Arabic with everyday Gulf dialect content. This policy explains what data the app touches, how it's used, and the choices available to you. For the rules covering app usage, Premium billing, and leaderboard conduct, see our Terms of Service.
The short version
Yallah Habibti doesn't require an account, doesn't run its own servers, and — unless you turn on the optional cloud sync described below — never sends your personal data anywhere except your own device. If you choose to sign in and turn on progress sync, a copy of your course progress is stored in the cloud (via Google Firebase) under your account, so it can follow you to another device; you can delete that account and its cloud data at any time from Settings. The other outside services the app talks to are Google AdMob, which shows ads and — where required — asks your consent first, and RevenueCat, which manages Premium subscription purchases through Apple's and Google's own billing systems.
Information stored on your device
The app saves your course progress, streak, achievements, hearts count, and settings (like display preferences) using your device's local storage. This information:
- Never leaves your device or gets sent to us, unless you turn on optional cloud sync (see below)
- Is only accessible to the app itself
- Is permanently deleted if you uninstall the app or clear its data from your device settings
Unless you turn on sync, this progress can't be recovered or transferred if you switch devices or reinstall the app.
Optional account sync
Yallah Habibti offers optional cloud sync so your course progress can follow you across devices. Signing in is never required to use the app — everything above stays true unless you take this extra step, from Settings → Sync my progress across devices.
If you choose to turn it on:
- You sign in with your Google or Apple account, handled entirely by Google or Apple — we never see or store your password.
- We use Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) to create an account identifier and store a copy of your course progress — the same categories of information described above (completed lessons, streak, achievements, scores, and similar) — tied to that identifier. Your name and email may also be stored if your Google or Apple account provides them, so the app can show "Signed in as ___".
- Your progress is only ever readable by your own signed-in account, enforced by Firebase's server-side access rules, not just app behavior — no other user can see it.
- This data is never used for advertising and is never shared with AdMob or any advertiser.
- See Google's Privacy & Terms for how Firebase, as part of Google Cloud, handles data on our behalf.
You can delete your account and permanently delete everything stored under it in the cloud at any time, from Settings → Delete account and cloud data. This does not touch the progress already saved on your device, which continues to follow the same rules as any other locally-stored data described above.
Quiz leaderboards
Yallah Habibti offers optional daily, weekly, and monthly leaderboards, shown per topic, covering every quiz mode. This is a second, separate opt-in on top of account sync — turning on sync does not put you on a leaderboard, and turning on a leaderboard does not require sync.
- Leaderboards require being signed in (see "Optional account sync" above) and are off by default even once signed in — you turn them on yourself, from Settings → Show my scores on leaderboards.
- If you turn this on, your chosen display name (the one set via "Edit name" — never your Google or Apple account name) and your best score per topic and quiz mode become visible to anyone who opens that topic's leaderboard, including people who don't use the app themselves. Nothing else about your account or progress is shown — no email, no sync data.
- We apply a small, automatic check against obviously offensive display names before letting you turn leaderboards on — a good-faith filter, not a guarantee. Any leaderboard entry can be reported (a flag icon next to each name) — this opens a pre-filled email to us, and we'll act on genuine reports.
- Turning this off, from the same Settings toggle, hides every leaderboard entry you have from other learners immediately. The underlying records are removed automatically about 31 days after their last update (the deletion process can take a day or so to catch up); deleting your account (see above) removes them immediately instead of waiting.
Microphone use
Speaking Practice and scenario role-play use your device's microphone to check your pronunciation, using your phone or tablet's built-in speech recognition (Apple's on iOS, Google's on Android). Your voice is:
- Never recorded, saved, or stored anywhere, by us or otherwise
- Only used live, in the moment, to compare what you said against the expected phrase
- Processed by your device's operating system — Apple or Google's speech recognizer, governed by their own privacy policies, not a service we run or receive data from
Spoken audio (text-to-speech)
Yallah Habibti plays computer-generated Arabic audio so you can hear how words and phrases are pronounced. This audio is prepared ahead of time and bundled with the app (or, occasionally, generated on your device), so playing it doesn't send anything about you or your activity to a text-to-speech service.
Notifications
Yallah Habibti can send two kinds of local notifications, entirely generated and scheduled on your own device:
- A daily reminder — a morning nudge to do a lesson, and (only if you have a streak longer than 5 days and haven't practiced yet that day) a heads-up before it resets at midnight. These are scheduled on your device using information the app already has locally (your streak and today's activity); nothing about your schedule or streak is sent anywhere to generate them.
- An alert when we post a new announcement (the same announcements shown in the app's News tab) — this only works while the app is running or recently backgrounded, and requires no data from your device beyond checking for new posts.
Both are on by default and can be turned off anytime from Settings → Daily reminders. Turning notifications off doesn't affect any other data described in this policy.
Advertising
The app shows ads via Google AdMob — a short rewarded video you can choose to watch for an extra "heart" (life), and an interstitial ad after finishing a quiz or lesson test. Serving ads may involve AdMob accessing device or advertising identifiers to select and measure ads, and, where you've consented, to personalize them.
- If you're in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you'll be asked to give or decline consent for personalized advertising the first time the app requests an ad, via Google's User Messaging Platform. You can change this choice anytime from Settings → Ad privacy choices inside the app.
- On iOS, you'll also see Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, asking permission to use your device's advertising identifier. Declining doesn't stop ads from showing — it just means they won't be personalized to you.
- AdMob's own privacy practices, and those of the ad networks it works with, govern how that data is handled once it reaches Google. See Google's Privacy & Terms for details.
We don't use any other advertising or analytics service, and don't run analytics or crash-reporting of our own.
Premium subscriptions
Yallah Habibti offers an optional Premium subscription. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play — we never receive or store your payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.). We use RevenueCat to manage and verify your subscription status; RevenueCat receives a device-generated purchase/entitlement identifier and your purchase history from Apple/Google, but no payment information. See RevenueCat's own Privacy Policy for details.
Restoring a previous purchase (Settings → Restore purchases) works the same way, through your existing Apple ID or Google account — no account with us is required to buy or restore Premium.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account, email address, or name to use the app — those are only collected if you choose to turn on optional cloud sync (see above)
- We don't operate our own servers — the only server-side storage involved is Google Firebase. Personal progress data is only stored there for accounts that turn on optional sync; public content (announcements in the News tab, and any leaderboard entries you've opted into) is also served from Firebase, without requiring you to be signed in to read it
- We never receive or store your payment details — purchases are processed by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat
- We don't sell your data
- We don't share data with anyone beyond what's described above for advertising, subscriptions, optional sync, and optional leaderboards
Children's privacy
Yallah Habibti isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at the address below and we'll address it.
Your choices
- Ad consent: change your ad-personalization choice anytime via Settings → Ad privacy choices in the app (shown only where applicable).
- Tracking permission (iOS): change your App Tracking Transparency choice anytime via your device's Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Deleting your data: uninstalling the app (or clearing its data in your device settings) permanently deletes everything stored on your device. If you've turned on sync, also use Settings → Delete account and cloud data first to remove your cloud-stored copy — it isn't affected by uninstalling the app.
- Turning off sync / deleting your account: from Settings → Delete account and cloud data, which deletes your account and everything stored under it in the cloud, including any leaderboard entries. Your on-device progress is untouched.
- Turning off leaderboards: from Settings → Show my scores on leaderboards — turning it off immediately hides your existing leaderboard entries from other learners; the underlying records are removed automatically about 31 days after their last update.
- Reporting a leaderboard name: tap the flag icon next to any name on a leaderboard to email us about it.
- Managing or cancelling Premium: subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID (Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions) or Google account (Play Store → Payments & subscriptions) — not inside the app.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes — for example, when new features are added. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent version.
